The SDAU functions with its HQ at Sardarkrushinagar which is located 28 km away from Palanpur the HQ of district Banaskantha. SDAU caters to the farmers centric locally relevant and globally congruent research education and extension education in agriculture and allied fields. The jurisdiction of SDAU spreads over seven districts viz Banaskantha Sabarkantha Patan Mehsana Gandhinagar Kachchh and Aravalli of North and North West Gujarat. The SDAU represents the typical climatic conditions of semi-arid regions having low rainfall with wide chasm between diurnal and nocturnal temperatures. The soils are deep loamy sand to sandy loam. The general topography of the swathe is rugged plain except North Eastern side that has undulating topography.
