Organization Profile: The Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati (IIT Tirupati), established in 2015, is an autonomous Institute under Ministry of Education, Government of India. It is declared as an Institute of National Importance under the Act of Parliament of India (Institutes of Technology Act, 1961).
The IIT system has 23 Institutions of Technology. The IITs are well known both nationally and internationally for excellence in education and research in engineering and science. The research and academic programs are handled by outstanding faculty members and the best students in the country take admission to the IITs. The prospective students have to appear in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted on all India basis, which around 800,000 students take based on which around 200,000 are eligible for the JEE-Advanced examination. About 16,000 students are offered admissions in the B. Tech program in the IITs. Over the years, IITs have created world class educational platforms dynamically sustained through internationally recognized research based on excellent infrastructural facilities. The faculty and alumni of IITs have made huge impact in all sectors of society, both in India and abroad. The institutes are globally recognized as centers of academic excellence and are reputed for the outstanding caliber of the students graduating from these Institutions.
Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati is the first among the 3rd phase of IITs, announced in 2014, to have its foundation stone laid in March 2015. IIT Tirupati started functioning with the support of its mentoring institute, IIT Madras, from the academic year of 2015-16. The academic program was launched in August 2015 by admitting students in the B.Tech programme in the fields of Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The research programmes namely, the MS and Ph.D. programmes have started from the academic year 2017. Subsequently, the new B.Tech programme in Chemical Engineering started in August 2018. The M.Tech programs in Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer Science disciplines have also been launched from August 2018. The M.Sc programme in Mathematics was started in August 2019. The latest addition is the Master of Public Policy (MPP) programme, which was launched in 2022 to meet the growing demand for policy professionals in India. The curriculum for various programmes have an emphasis on theoretical knowledge and practice-oriented laboratories. Courses are well planned to nurture innovation, creativity, quality, teamwork, communication skills, ethics, and societal interaction.

Academic Qualification (Minimum):
The required academic qualification for all faculty positions is a PhD in the relevant discipline with first class or equivalent (in terms of grades, etc.) at the preceding degree and a very good academic record throughout.
Experience:
Assistant Professor Grade I: A minimum of three years of post-Ph.D teaching/research / professional experience, excluding the experience gained while pursuing Ph.D. The candidate should have demonstrated research capabilities in terms of publications in reputed journals and conferences.
Assistant Professor Grade II (contractual): Candidates who meet all the criteria for Assistant Professor Grade I, except the postPh.D experience requirement may be appointed as Assistant Professor Grade II with appropriate pay based on the number of years of post-doctoral experience. Once they fulfill the experience criteria for Assistant Professor Grade I, an expert committee will review their credentials and contributions to consider their movement to Assistant Professor Grade I.
Associate Professor: A minimum of 6 years post-Ph.D teaching/research/professional experience of which at least 3 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor Grade I in IITs, IISc, IISERs, IIMs or at an equivalent level in any other Indian/Foreign Universities/ Institutions/Industries of comparable level. The candidate should have demonstrated research ability with an excellent record of publications in reputed journals and conferences and must have supervised Ph.D students. Candidate should also have demonstrated excellent teaching abilities at higher educational institutions. It is desirable that the candidate has carried out laboratory development/course development/ technology development/ innovative work leading to patents and has generated sufficient funding for research. The criteria of supervision of Ph.D students and teaching at higher educational institutions may be relaxed for candidates who join from the industry, with excellent research / professional track record.
Professor: A minimum of 10 years post-Ph.D teaching/research/professional experience of which at least 4 years should be at the level of Associate Professor in IITs, IISc, IISERs, IIMs or at an equivalent level in any other Indian/Foreign Universities/ Institutions of comparable level. The candidate should have demonstrated leadership in research in a specific area, with an excellent record of publications in reputed journals and conferences and should have graduated Ph.D students. Candidates should also have demonstrated excellent teaching abilities at higher educational institutions. It is desirable that the candidate has carried out laboratory development/course development/ technology development/ innovative work leading to patents and has generated sufficient funding for research. It is also desirable that the candidate has external recognition in the area of specialization. Teaching and Ph.D guidance requirements may be relaxed for candidates from research labs if they have an exceptional research record.
Probation: The period of probation will be normally one year. However, the Institute may
extend it if found necessary.
