Organization Profile: The institution was started solely for the upliftment of the young girls of this coastal town of Nagapattinam, during the International women’s year 1975. It was founded by Thiru A.D.Jeyaveerapandian and brothers in the name of their parents A.Duraisamy Nadar & Maragathavalli Ammal, who envisaged a magnificient future of a hundred generations of womenfolk in and around Nagapattinam. The College is affiliated to Bharathidasan University and run by Natarajan Dhamayanthi Educational Society. The College renders its invaluable service to the society with its need based curriculum and quality education.
The college has been conferred autonomous status in 2004 and got extensions in 2011, 2016 and 2023. It takes pride in stating that it was awarded ‘A’ Grade by NAAC in the year 2004 and Re-accredited with the same ‘A’ Grade in 2011, 2017 & 2023 with 3.11, 3.28 and 3.09 CGPA respectively. These testimonials led to the institution being recognized under the UGC Scheme for mentoring NAAC Accreditation aspirant institutions to promote quality assurance in the higher education under PARAMARSH Scheme. DBT STAR College scheme was sanctioned in the year 2023 for the Department of Botany, Biochemistry, B. Voc Marine food processing and Preservation, Chemistry, Computer Science, Computer application, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics and Zoology. Being an autonomous institution, the college is equipped with quality resources and infrastructure facility for imparting need and career based education using contemporary teaching techniques by the motivated, experienced and dedicated teachers.

At present, college offers 16 UG, 8 PG, 2 B.Voc and 6 Ph.D., programmes to the students.
