Wipro WIN Research Fellowship for Admission into BITS Pilani PhD Program

Date: 16th June 2025

Application Deadline: 4th July 2025 | Joining: – At the earliest upon selection Applications are invited for one fully funded position of a PhD Scholar on a sponsored project, under the Wipro WIN Research fellowship program. The selected candidate will work with Dr. Aritra Chatterjee, and Dr. Sayan Das at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad campus.

Research Topic: Synthesis, Characterization and Constitutive Modelling of homogeneous and Janus particle based Magnetorheological fluids (MRFs) for smart cushioning technologies.

Scope of Work:

This project is based on Synthesis, Characterization and Constitutive Modelling of homogeneous and Janus particle based Magnetorheological fluids (MRFs) for smart cushioning technologies. Specifically, it will involve synthesis of homogeneous and Janus iron-oxide particles for MRF preparation, structural and magnetic characterization of the custom MRFs and rheological testing to evaluate their viscoelastic properties. The experimental results will be used to develop constitutive models for the MRFs within a Non-Newtonian Framework. (Project Duration – 4 years)

Supervisor Details: Dr. Aritra Chatterjee (PI) and Dr. Sayan Das (Co-PI)

Place of Work: Department of Mechanical Engineering, BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad campus. Fellowship Amount: The fellowship will provide a stipend of INR 37,000/- + 27% HRA per month (total Rs 46990). Fellowship will be enhanced after completing 2 years. Research scholars will also receive domestic and international travel support and contingency funds for project work.

Eligibility Criteria:

Essential Qualification: M.E./MTech/M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, M.Sc. (Physics, Material Science, Physical Chemistry) having a First Class or equivalent grade and a minimum of 60% aggregate at both UG and PG levels. Candidates with a B.E./ BTech in relevant engineering disciplines with a First Class and (>8.0 GPA) can also apply. Interested candidates from other disciplines but having relevant skillset and experiences can reach out to the PIs regarding application.

Desirable Qualification: –

  • A background or prior experience in any of the following fields including Fluid or Solid mechanics, rheological testing, particle fabrication using PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) and experimental characterization, and constitutive modelling of materials will be helpful. Prior familiarity with computational platforms like MATLAB, COMSOL or other FEA based solvers will be an added advantage.
