Job Description: Garden Manager for TVS Educational Society (Chennai, Hosur, Tumkur)

Position: Garden Manager
Location: TVS Educational Society in Hosur, Chennai, and Tumkur
Reporting To:  Society Administrator

Job Summary:

The Garden Manager will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the school’s gardens, green spaces, and landscaping to ensure a clean, aesthetically pleasing, and eco-friendly environment. The role involves planning, organizing, and supervising gardening activities while promoting sustainability and educational gardening programs for students.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Garden Maintenance & Landscaping

• Plan, design, and maintain school gardens, lawns, flower beds, and green spaces.
• Ensure proper planting, watering, fertilizing, pruning, and pest control.
• Monitor plant health and take corrective measures to prevent diseases.
• Maintain gardening tools, equipment, and irrigation systems.
• Implement seasonal planting schedules and ensure year-round greenery.

Sustainability & Eco-Friendly Practices

• Promote organic gardening and composting techniques.
• Implement rainwater harvesting and water conservation methods.
• Encourage biodiversity by planting native species and creating herb gardens.
• Manage waste recycling (green waste, composting) within the school premises.

Administrative & Safety Responsibilities

• Maintain records of plants, gardening expenses, and maintenance schedules.
• Ensure garden safety by removing hazards and maintaining clear pathways.
• Supervise gardening staff (if applicable) and assign daily tasks.
• Coordinate with school administration for garden-related events and improvements.

Vendor & Inventory Management

• Source high-quality seeds, plants, fertilizers, and gardening supplies.
• Liaise with external vendors for landscaping projects and equipment repairs.
• Maintain inventory of gardening tools and materials.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Diploma / Degree in Horticulture, Botany, Agriculture, or related field (preferred).
• Prior experience in gardening, landscaping, or institutional green space management.
• Knowledge of plant care, organic farming, and irrigation systems.
• Physical stamina for outdoor work and ability to handle gardening tools.
• Basic knowledge of eco-friendly and sustainable practices.

Working Conditions:

Primarily outdoor work in different weather conditions.
