Head – Innovation & Entrepreneurship (Innovation Head)

The Head of Innovation is responsible for building and leading a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and problem-solving across the engineering college. The role focuses on translating ideas into prototypes, startups, patents, and societal impact through structured programs, industry collaboration, and student–faculty engagement.

Key Responsibilities

1. Innovation Ecosystem Development

• Establish and manage Innovation & Incubation Centers, Maker Spaces, and R&D labs
• Promote design thinking, creativity, and interdisciplinary innovation
• Create policies and frameworks for innovation, IP, and entrepreneurship

2. Student Innovation & Startups

• Encourage and mentor student startups and innovation projects
• Support participation in hackathons, ideathons, innovation challenges, and competitions
• Facilitate prototype development, MVP creation, and commercialization

3. Faculty Engagement & Research Innovation

• Motivate faculty to undertake applied research, patents, and industry-funded projects
• Support conversion of research outputs into products, patents, and startups
• Organize faculty development programs on innovation and entrepreneurship

4. Industry & External Collaboration

• Build partnerships with industry, startups, incubators, accelerators, and investors
• Coordinate MoUs, sponsored projects, consultancy, and technology transfer
• Invite industry experts and entrepreneurs for mentoring and talks

5. Funding, Grants & IP Management

• Identify and apply for government and private innovation grants
• Support patent filing, IP protection, licensing, and technology transfer
• Track innovation metrics such as patents, startups, funded projects, and revenues

6. Events, Programs & Outreach

• Organize innovation-related events such as startup bootcamps, demo days, workshops, and exhibitions
• Promote innovation through outreach programs, community projects, and societal problem-solving
• Represent the institution in innovation forums and networks

7. Accreditation & Compliance Support

• Maintain documentation and reports for NAAC, NBA, NIRF, AICTE, and other bodies
• Track and report innovation KPIs and impact metrics

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Qualifications

• Ph.D./Master’s degree in Engineering, Technology

Minimum 8–15 years of academic, industry, or innovation leadership experience
