Role Overview

Director – AI & Data Science program will serve as the founding academic and institutional leader of NAMTECH’s AI & Data Science program, responsible for building and scaling a technology-led, industry-integrated AI and data science ecosystem.

AI & Data Science is envisioned as a core enabler across NAMTECH’s engineering, manufacturing, and technology programs, embedding artificial intelligence, data-driven decision-making, and digital intelligence into undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and executive education.

The role requires strong academic credibility, applied AI expertise, and institution-building capability, with a clear focus on industry-relevant education, applied research, and technology deployment.

  1. Academic & Institutional Leadership
  • Provide academic and strategic leadership for AI and data science education across NAMTECH’s technology- and manufacturing-focused programs.
  • Shape the positioning of Program AI & Data Science as a practice-oriented, industry-facing, and research-enabled academic unit.
  • Align program priorities with the institutional roadmap and the Director General’s academic and research vision.
  • Contribute to institutional governance, accreditation preparedness, academic policy formulation, and quality assurance frameworks, particularly in emerging technologies.
  • Support and develop national and international academic collaborations in AI, data science, and digital technologies.
  1. Program & Curriculum Excellence
  • Lead the design, delivery, and continuous enhancement of AI and data science programs and modules across:
    • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
    • Data Science, Data Engineering, and Advanced Analytics
    • Deep Learning, Generative AI, and Intelligent Systems
    • AI Systems, MLOps, Deployment, and Scalable Architectures
    • Responsible AI, Data Governance, and Ethical Frameworks
  • Ensure curriculum relevance aligned with manufacturing, mobility, industrial AI, smart systems, and technology-led enterprises.
  • Promote experiential learning, including project-based instruction, industry-led modules, applied research projects, and real-world problem solving.
  • Ensure academic rigor, learning outcome alignment, assessment quality, and accreditation readiness across all programs.
  1. Industry and Applied Innovation
  • Build strong partnerships with manufacturing organizations, technology companies, AI firms, startups, research institutions, and industry bodies.
  • Enable internships, live projects, industry immersions, co-created programs, and executive education offerings in AI and data science.
  • Drive applied research, AI solution development, and technology commercialization aligned with NAMTECH’s focus sectors.
  • Establish and support industry-sponsored laboratories, centers of excellence, and innovation hubs within the School.
  • Foster entrepreneurship, innovation, and AI-enabled problem solving in collaboration with other technology schools.
  1. Faculty and Operational Leadership
  • Lead the recruitment, mentoring, development, and performance management of faculty, researchers, and academic leaders in AI and data science.
  • Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration with engineering, management, and technology schools.
  • Oversee budgeting, resource allocation, infrastructure planning, and digital technology resources for the School.
  • Support strong student outcomes, including research exposure, industry readiness, innovation pathways, and career development.

Qualifications and Experience

  • PhD from a reputed national or global university in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering (AI-focused), or closely related disciplines.
  • 20+ years of combined experience across academia, research, and/or industry, with senior leadership exposure at the level of Dean, Director, School Head, Center Head, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of AI-driven enterprises, digital transformation, industrial applications of AI, and emerging technology ecosystems.
