Institution Profile: The formation of the Mumbai Campus of IMU involved the amalgamation of two renowned institutes – Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Advanced Maritime Studies (LBS CAMSAR) and Marine Engineering and Research Institute (MERI). LBS CAMSAR was established in 1948 and provided various post-sea training courses to the personnel of the merchant navy. In 1949, the Govt. of India established the Directorate of Marine Engineering Training (DMET), which had two institutes situated in Mumbai and Kolkata. Required Educational Qualifications for Faculty (Nautical Science): Candidates should have
- Master (Foreign Going) Certificate of Competency issued by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India
- Sailing experience of at least six months at Management level as per the STCW Convention, as amended
- VICT/TOTA course certificate, or willingness to complete the course before joining
- Desirable: Six months of teaching or training experience in Maritime Training Institutes in India, and AECS and TSTA course certificates
Required Educational Qualifications for Faculty (Marine Engineering): Candidates should have
- MEO Class I (Motor) Certificate of Competency issued by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India
- Sailing experience of at least six months at Management level as per the STCW Convention, as amended
- VICT/TOTA course certificate, or willingness to complete the course before joining
- Desirable: Six months of teaching or training experience in Maritime Training Institutes in India, and AECS and TSTA course certificates
Required Educational Qualifications for Paramedic: Candidates should have
- B.Sc. Nursing, Diploma or Degree from a recognized university, or a qualification in a related branch
- Desirable: One year of experience in the relevant field
Required Educational Qualifications for Workshop Instructor (Marine Engineering): Candidates should have any one of the following
- Marine Fitter from the Merchant Navy
- Petty Officer of the Marine Engineering Branch from the Indian Navy or Coast Guard
- Near Coastal Voyage (NCV) Class IV Engineer
- Desirable: Six months of relevant work experience
Required Educational Qualifications for Workshop Instructor (Electrical Engineering) and Lab Assistant (Instructors): Candidates should have either of the following
- 3-year Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from an AICTE approved institute
- Petty Officer in the Electrical Branch of the Indian Navy or Coast Guard
- Desirable: One year of relevant work experience
Required Educational Qualifications for Gym Instructor: Candidates should have
- Diploma or Certificate in Physical Education or Gym Training
- Desirable: Experience in gym training in an educational institution
Age Limit: Preferably below 62 years for Faculty, below 55 years for Paramedic, below 57 years for Workshop Instructors and Lab Assistants, and below 50 years for Gym Instructor. The notification does not mention any age relaxation.

- Can teach and train in pre-sea and post-sea maritime courses, including simulator training
