Organization Profile: Himachal Pradesh attained statehood on 25th January 1971. Prior to this date, the function of the Public Service Commission in respect of the civil services and posts in connection with the affairs of the Union Territory of Himachal Pradesh were being discharged by the Union Public Service Commission under Article 315 of the Constitution of India. It was, therefore, incumbent on the State to have its own Public Service Commission. However, since a State Public Service Commission could be constituted simultaneously with the attainment of Statehood, the Union Public Service Commission, on a request from the Governor of the State of Himachal Pradesh with the approval of the President of India, agreed to serve the needs of Himachal Pradesh till the establishment of a Public Service Commission for the State or for a period of three months from 25th January, 1971 whichever was earlier.

Qualification:
- i) A recognized medical qualification included in the first or second Schedule or Part-II of the third Schedule (other than Licentiate qualifications) to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 now National Medical Commission Act, 2019. Holders of Educational Qualification included in Part-II of the third Schedule should also fulfill the conditions stipulated in sub-section (3) of Section 13 of Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 now National Medical Commission Act, 2019.
ii) A post graduate degree in the concerned speciality as mentioned in Part-A of Annexure-II or its equivalent qualifications.
iii) At least four years teaching experience as Associate Professor in the concerned speciality failing which an Associate Professor having seven years teaching experience as Associate Professor and Assistant Professor combined in the concerned speciality. However, in all cases the incumbent shall have minimum ten years teaching experience after post graduation. - Desirable Qualification
(i) Knowledge of customs, manners and dialects of Himachal Pradesh and suitability for appointment in the peculiar conditions prevailing in the Pradesh
(ii) Minimum of four Research Publications indexed in index Medicus or National Journal and one Research Publication in International Journal.
