Organization Profile: TCG (The Chatterjee Group) CREST (Centres for Research and Education in Science and Technology) is a multidisciplinary, research-driven institution, recently recognized by the Ministry of Education and the UGC as a Deemed to be University in the ‘Distinct Category—Research’ (Government of India Gazette No. 21, May 24–30, 2025).

  1. TCG CREST, established in 2020, began as a cluster of 5 advanced research centres in the mathematical and natural sciences.
  2. The depth and excellence of research formed the foundation for its application for recognition as a Deemed to be University in the Distinct Category, endorsed by the UGC. In May 2025, the Ministry of Education granted TCG CREST the status of Deemed to be University.

  1. The University will follow a reverse trajectory model, commencing with PhD and master’s programmes. Undergraduate studies will not begin within the first five years.

Job Title/Designation: Open-rank Faculty Positions (Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors) and two-year Postdoctoral Fellowships

The newly-starting SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES invites applications for Open-rank faculty positions (Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors) and two-year Postdoctoral fellowships in the interdisciplinary fields of Art History and Visual Studies; Cultural History, Cultural Anthropology and Cultural Studies; and Digital Humanities and Culture.

Eligibility Criteria for Open-rank Faculty Positions:

TCG CREST (Deemed to be University) will adhere to the rules and regulations laid down by the UGC in handling the faculty recruitment.

  • A Ph.D. from a reputed university in any of above fields and allied fields of Humanities and Social Sciences, or a Ph.D. in the final stage of submission (to be considered only for Assistant Professors)
  • Strong record of academic research and peer-reviewed publications
  • Orientation in interdisciplinary academic work and professional activities
  • Experience in postgraduate teaching and Ph.D. supervision (applicable for Associate Professors and Professors)
  • Interest in initiating public projects and institutional collaborations.

Eligibility Criteria for Postdoctoral Fellowships:

  • A fresh Ph.D. (preferably of the past 4-5 years) from a reputed University in any of the following fields – Art History and Visual Studies, Cultural History and Cultural Studies,  Digital Humanities and Culture, and Games Studies
  • Academic publications and conference participation
  • Abilities of teaching, supervision and project guidance
  • A book project in preparation (preferably in the above fields) that can be completed over the 2 years of the fellowship
  • For those applying in the field of Digital Humanities, prior experience in handling Digital Humanities projects will be important

The Programmes in Art History and Visual Studies, Cultural History and Cultural Studies, and Digital Humanities are expected to begin in late August-early September 2026, initially only with a Ph.D. Programme, consisting of a starting year (1st and 2nd semesters) of taught courses and writing assignments, with  a  research paper to be written at the end of the first year, leading on to the preparation and defence of a PhD proposal in the 3rd semester. There will be the default option of students exiting at the end of the first year with a second Masters in Research degree, if they do not wish to continue with a Ph.D. A two years Masters programme will follow later.
