The Central University of Jharkhand came into being under this Act on 1st of March, 2009. The visitor of the Central University of Jharkhand, Her Excellency, Shrimati Pratibha Devisingh Patil, appointed Dr. Darlando T. Khathing, an internationally renowned scientist and a distinguished academic administrator, as its first Vice Chancellor. CUJ’s focus will be on research in cutting-edge technologies.

Required Educational Qualifications for Assistant Professor (English Studies): Candidates should have either of the following
Option A
- Master’s degree with 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in English, English Literature, Linguistics, Film Studies, English Language & Literature, Communicative English or Translation Studies, from an Indian university or an accredited foreign university
- NET conducted by UGC or CSIR, or SLET/SET
- Ph.D. awarded as per UGC Regulations, 2009 or 2016, which gives exemption from NET/SLET/SET
- Candidates registered for Ph.D. before 11 July 2009 are exempted if the Ph.D. was awarded in regular mode, the thesis was evaluated by two external examiners, an open viva voce was held, two research papers were published (one in a refereed journal) and two papers were presented in UGC/ICSSR/CSIR supported conferences
Option B
- Ph.D. from a foreign university ranked in the top 500 by QS, THE or ARWU
Relaxation
- 5% relaxation in marks for SC/ST/differently-abled/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates
- 5% relaxation, from 55% to 50%, for Ph.D. holders who obtained their Master’s degree before 19 September 1991
