Along with this, candidates must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC, CSIR, or a similar test accredited by UGC, like SLET/SET. Candidates holding a Ph.D. degree as per UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil/Ph.D degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 are exempted from NET/SLET/SET, subject to fulfilment of prescribed conditions relating to thesis evaluation, open viva-voce, and published research papers. Under Option B, candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree from a foreign university ranked among the top 500 in the World University Ranking by QS, THE, or ARWU.
