Essential Qualifications:
- A good academic record with at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade) at Master’s Degree level in Relevant field from a recognized Indian University or equivalent Foreign University recognized by the Government of India.
- SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates and Physically/Visually Handicapped candidates are eligible for 5% relaxation (from 55% to 50%) at Master’s Degree level.
- Ph.D. Degree holders who passed their Master’s Degree prior to September 1991 are also eligible for 5% relaxation (from 55% to 50%).
- Grade ‘B’ in the 7-point scale (O, A, B, C, D, E & F) is considered equivalent to 55% where grading system is followed.
- Candidates must have cleared the eligibility test (NET) for Assistant Professor conducted by UGC, CSIR, or a similar test accredited by HPPSC.
- NET/SLET shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for appointment.
- Candidates who cleared SET accredited by UGC prior to 1st June 2002 are exempted from NET and are eligible to apply for Assistant Professor anywhere in India. For SET held from 1st June 2002 onwards, candidates are eligible to apply only in Universities/Colleges situated in the state from where they cleared their SET.
- Candidates registered for M.Phil/Ph.D programme prior to July 11, 2009 and awarded the degree under then-existing Ordinances/Byelaws/Regulations are exempted from NET/SLET/SET, provided:
- Ph.D. degree awarded in regular mode only
- Thesis evaluated by at least two external examiners
- Open Ph.D. viva voce conducted
- At least two research papers published from Ph.D. work, with at least one in a refereed journal
- At least two presentations made in conferences/seminars based on Ph.D. work
Desirable: Knowledge of customs, manners, and dialects of Himachal Pradesh and suitability for appointment in the peculiar conditions prevailing in the Pradesh.
