Institution Profile: The need of the region comprising South Gujarat to have a separate university was voiced initially by educationists such as Atisukhshankar Trivedi who through public speeches and writings created awareness and gained support for this demand. This was immediately taken up and strongly supported by the Education societies of Surat and Navsari which already supported and managed colleges in various disciplines imparting both Undergraduate and Postgraduate education. Moreover, these were some of the most highly reputed academic centres under both the University of Bombay and the Gujarat University. The outcome of these moves was that at a meeting of educationists and eminent citizens organized under the auspices of the Sarvajanik Education Society in Surat on July 31, 1960 a committee of 38 members was appointed to draw up guidelines and principles for the establishment of a separate university for South Gujarat. This document was submitted to the Chief Minister and Education Minister of Gujarat.

Employment Type: Temporary and contractual, on a fixed-term basis. The initial tenure is one year and may be extended up to three years in all. On completion of three years, one further year of extension may be granted once, on the basis of exceptionally good performance. • A Ph.D. is desirable for guiding research scholars at the Ph.D. level, but is not mandatory for teaching

• Distinguished experts who have made remarkable contributions in their profession, in fields such as engineering, science, technology, entrepreneurship, commerce, social sciences, media, literature, fine arts, civil services, armed forces, the legal profession, community development, rural development and public administration
• Eminent professionals, industry leaders and practitioners, including those from research organisations, PSUs, industry associations such as FICCI and CII, NGOs, international organisations, civil services, professional councils, armed forces and Non-Resident Indians
• Persons in the teaching profession, whether serving or retired, are not eligible, and their applications will be summarily rejected

Required Experience:

• At least fifteen (15) years of service or experience in the specific profession or role, preferably at a senior level

Responsibilities:

• Involvement in the development and designing of courses and curriculum
• Introduction of new practice-oriented courses
• Delivery of lectures and involvement in practical and project work as per the given workload and University policies

Pay Scale/Pay Level: Honorarium as per University norms, at the rate given below.

The honorarium cannot be met from the salary grant received from the State Government. Mileage allowance is payable only for journeys actually performed for the work of the University, on certification by the Head of the Department, at the rates below. No travelling or daily allowance is payable for attending the Selection Committee/Interview.

The Professor of Practice is not eligible for any service benefits, E.P.F., gratuity or perks, other than the fixed honorarium.
