Organization Profile: The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram (IISER-TVM) is dedicated to scientific research and science education of international standards. Traditionally, teaching has been segregated from research in undergraduate science curricula in our country. The IISERs were established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, to bridge this dichotomy. IISER-TVM was founded in 2008. The institute aims to provide high-quality education in modern science, integrating it with outstanding research at the undergraduate level itself, and to develop a spirit of enquiry cutting across disciplines.
Job Title: Junior Research Fellow
Title of the project: MoES Grant on “Impacts of the Tropical Convergence Zone and Monsoon Low Pressure System on Summer Monsoon Variability: Observations and Models”
Qualification:
M.Sc./ B. Tech / M.Tech in Atmospheric Science/ Earth Science/ Physics/ Mathematics/Meteorology/Climate Science/Oceanography/Mechanical Engineering/ Civil Engineering or equivalent
And
Qualified in National Level Examinations like CSIR-UGC-NET(LS), GATE, JEST or equivalent
Or
BS-MS/MSc students from any of the IISERs/IITs/IISc with CGPA 8 or above on a 10-point scale are exempted from national level test eligibility related criteria.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Background in Tropical Meteorology, with a focus on monsoon dynamics or Low pressure systems or Tropical Convergence Zone.
- Sound understanding of Fluid Dynamics, particularly as it applies to large-scale atmospheric circulation.
- Proficiency in Python programming, including use of scientific libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Scikit-learn, xarray).
- Experience or strong interest in atmospheric modelling and climate data.
Salary: Rs.37000/- + HRA
Tenure of the post: 1 year only, with the possibility of an extension based on performance
