Job Title: Head of Department (HOD) – Robotics and Automation
Institution: Polytechnic College
Reporting To: Principal / Dean
Scope: Academic leadership, department management, and industry collaboration for the Robotics and Automation program.
Key Responsibilities
1. Academic Leadership & Curriculum Development
- Oversee the design and implementation of the diploma programin Robotics and Automation, ensuring alignment with AICTE/MSBTE/DOTE standards .
- Update syllabi to include emerging technologies like PLC, SCADA, Industrial IoT, AI/ML, and robotic programming
- Promote hands-on learningthrough labs (e.g., robotics workshops, automation tools, microcontroller labs) and project-based courses
2. Department Administration
- Manage faculty recruitment, performance reviews, and mentorship (e.g., hiring lecturers with expertise in instrumentation, embedded systems, or mechatronics)
- Supervise lab infrastructure, including equipment like industrial robots (e.g., NACHI six-axis robots), PLC trainers, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems .
- Ensure compliance with NBA accreditationstandards by framing PEOs (Program Educational Objectives) and PSOs (Program Specific Outcomes) .
3. Industry Collaboration & Placement
- Establish MoUswith companies for internships, in-plant training, and placements .
- Organize industrial visits, expert lectures, and workshopsto bridge academia-industry gaps
- Facilitate student placementsin roles like Automation Technician, Robotics Engineer, or Control Systems Specialist
4. Research & Student Development
- Encourage faculty and students to participate in national competitions, paper presentations, and projects(e.g., robotic arm design, IoT-based automation) .
- Foster entrepreneurshipthrough incubation centers or collaborations like FMCIII (Foundation for MakeItHappen Center) .
- Promote interdisciplinary researchin medical robotics, swarm robotics, or assistive technologies
5. Stakeholder Engagement
- Conduct stakeholder meetingswith alumni, parents, and industry experts to refine program outcomes
- Liaise with Boards of Studiesto review syllabi and incorporate industry feedback
- Represent the department in academic bodies (e.g., MSBTE, AICTE) and conferences
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Master’s/PhD in Robotics, Automation, Mechatronics, or related fields (e.g., Instrumentation, Embedded Systems)
- Experience: Minimum 08 – 10 years in teaching/research, with 5+ years in leadership (e.g., HOD, Program Coordinator) .
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in PLC programming, CAD/CAM, robotic simulation tools, and industrial automation systems .
- Soft Skills: Leadership, communication, and ethical professionalism to mentor students and faculty
Performance Metrics
- Student placement rates (e.g., 100% target as per CPAT-TVS benchmarks) .
- Lab utilization and industry collaborations (e.g., MoUs signed annually)
- Research output (e.g., patents, publications, competition awards)

- The role may involve workshop superintendenceor overseeing extracurricular activities (e.g., technical symposiums, blood camps) .
