It is an autonomous body funded and controlled by the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India which also oversees the administration of the institute since 1962.

Qualification:
- M.D./D.N.B. (Anaesthesia) or equivalent postgraduate degree in Anaesthesiology recognized by National Medical Commission with 3 years’ post M.D./D.N.B.
experience in Anaesthesia in a Teaching Hospital. Candidates with less than 3 years but more than one year experience after M.D./D.N.B. May be considered, if there are no suitably experience candidates. Experience in critical care and pain management is desirable. -
M.D. / D.N.B. (Radiation Oncology / Radiotherapy) or equivalent postgraduate degree recognized by National Medical Commission with 3 years’ post M.D./ D.N.B. experience in Radiation Oncology in a teaching hospital or cancer centre.
