International Brain Research Organization Conducting Activitiy From 23rd August to 27th August 2021

College Name: International Brain Research Organization

Organization Profile: IBRO is the global association of neuroscience societies established in 1961 that aims to promote and support neuroscience around the world through training, education, research, outreach and engagement activities, and the publication of our two journals, Neuroscience and IBRO Neuroscience Reports. More than 90 international, regional and national scientific members constitute IBRO’s Governing Council which, together with the IBRO Executive Committee and five Regional Committees, address the needs and advance the work of individual scientists and research communities everywhere. In addition, IBRO has partnerships with like-minded scientific organizations to identify priorities and help bridge gaps in knowledge, investment and resources in the field of brain research.

Nature of the activity: Associate School

Organizer(s): Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), Amarkantak (MP), India

Title of activity: Biophysical to Molecular Techniques: An interface in Neurobiology Research

Venue(s) of activity: IGNTU, Amarkantak (MP), India

Date(s) of activity (inclusive): August 23-27, 2021

Activity Start Date: 23rd August 2021

Activity End Date: 27th August 2021

Activity summary:
a. Abstract and purpose of activity:
The purpose of the proposed IBRO Associate School is to introduce different biophysical techniques as well as molecular techniques used in neurobiology research. These will be taught and demonstrated to MBBS, PhD students and junior postdoctoral fellows. This 5 days school will consist of lectures, group discussion, presentation by participants and Technical lecture/Demonstration of equipments, lab visit and discussion. Total 20 students will be selected, 10 from India and another 10 from Asia Pacific regions. The school will be organized with the theme of providing exposure of different biophysical instruments and techniques used in the field of neurobiology research. The entry of drug into the brain is usually done by means of delivery of drugs loaded in nanoparticles. Thus studying the property and characterization of nanoparticle by biophysical instruments is mandatory. For example characterization of nanoparticles and nanodynamics could be done by particle size zeta analyzer, fluorescence spectroscopy and Infrared spectroscopy. Moreover, the neuronal death due to neurodegenerative diseases and insults could be analyzed by MTT assay and binding assay of proteins with Thioflavin T assay. These could be done by spectroscopic techniques.
Usually these biophysical techniques are not utilized by neurobiologists. So studying these techniques as lecture along with demonstration could bridge the gap. Moreover, participants could be able understand the interface of neurobiology, biophysical methods especially delivery of nanoparticle LOADED medicine into the brain. The characterization and analysis of these molecules are useful in drug delivery and drug targeting. In addition, electron microscopy is used to localize particles inside the brain stand useful. Along with the biophysical techniques, molecular techniques will be taught to the participants. The program will include plenary lectures by prominent neuroscientist covering different biophysical techniques and uses in neurobiology research, technical lectures, group discussion, and popular lectures, demonstration of trancriptomics & proteomics techniques, preparation of nanoparticles, biophysical characterization of nanoparticle and extensive interaction. In conclusion, the school aims to connect the dots of biophysical techniques, characterization of nanoprticles and molecular biology research in the field of neurobiology. Further, participants also get a chance to visit Amarkantak to know it’s amazing background along with the culture of region of India. Participants are expected to acquire knowledge of both theoretical and technological advances of neurobiology in the context of biophysical techniques. They will also present their work at the end of school and discuss how they can utilize this school to improve their work. The school will provide an opportunity to understand the current scenario and challenges in interface (biophysical to molecules) for neurobiology research. Further, the proposed school shall provide a common platform for participants to share and gather their innovative ideas from experts in the field. Apart from scientific activities, the school will also endeavor to facilitate informal interactions between participants and faculties, and also to know the rich cultural heritage of holy town Amarkantak (MP) and India.

Expected number of attendees or awardees: The proposed school shall taught and demonstrate biophysical and molecular biology techniques to MBBS, PhD students and junior postdoctoral fellows. This 5 days school will consist of lectures, group discussion, presentation by participants and Technical lecture/Demonstration of equipments, lab visit and discussion. Total 20 students will be selected, 10 from India and another 10 from Asia Pacific regions. The tentative resource person with title of talk is provided
